Things that Run
There are so many neat things to buy in our modern
world, yet all of us have special things we want that
either don’t exist exactly the way we need, or are so
expensive we just must do without them. This is where
designing & building our own speciality items is the way
to go. On this Things that Run series, I will be posting
useful items I have built for my own use with detailed &
illustrated step-by-step construction narratives on how
I built each item. All of my personal creations are built
from commonly available parts and are fun to build &
practical to use.
One problem when designing and building our own
electronic, optical or mechanical devices is finding
suitable components. My preferred source for these
kinds of components is Gateway Electronics. They have
a store location in St. Louis Missouri, another in
San Diego California (now SD Electronics Supply) as
well as an online catalog (and their prices are so
affordable for the hobbyist on a short budget).
